Chris Rudeen- Assistant Professor of Writing
Christopher M. Rudeen, Ph.D., joined the Honors College faculty in 2025, where he teaches Honors Research Writing and various special topics courses. He was previously a lecturer in the Department of History at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, offering courses in the global history of science and medicine.
Chris studies the history of the mind sciences in the United States and Great Britain. His research focuses on the tools and theories practitioners have developed to study interior life through reference to exterior objects and attributes, including clothing, skin, and relationships. His work has been published in various edited volumes as well as in publications including Fashion Studies, Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences, and Journal of Medical Humanities.
Chris received his B.S. in chemistry and the history of science, medicine, and public health from Yale University, where he also worked as a copy editor for both the college’s newspaper and humor magazine. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University in the history of science with a secondary field in studies of women, gender, and sexuality. Outside of his academic work, Chris can be found reading novels about psychotherapy, watching various competition shows and napping with his black cat.
