HONR 150 Flourishing: The Applied Science of Wellbeing
College is a time of growth and exploration, but it can also be a time of intense pressure and stress, especially among students committed to high standards of excellence and achievement. Evidence-based theories and practices that promote personal wellbeing form the foundation of this class. Students will read primary research that illuminates the connection between emotional health, physical health, social relationships, mindfulness, and optimal daily functioning. Active exploration and personal application of specific wellbeing techniques and strategies are cornerstones of this experiential class. Students will learn to flourish by cultivating a healthy lifestyle throughout college and beyond.
Wellbeing programs and events are regularly offered in the Honors College building. These opportunities promote wellbeing and a sense community and offer convenient in-house choices for our very busy students.
These are a few of our most popular programs:
- Wind-down Wednesdays
- Wellbeing Matters Speaker Series
- De-Stressing with Dogs
- Laughter Yoga
- Physical Health/Exercise
- Finals Self-Care Lounge
Learning from peers and recognizing shared experiences are important benefits of peer-to-peer wellbeing education. In the VCU Honors College there are multiple opportunities for students to learn how to navigate successes and challenges from each other. Wellbeing peer-to-peer education opportunities include the Student Wellbeing Team and HONR 150 undergraduate Teaching Assistants.
The Honors College works with a range of Wellness partners at VCU and at the local and national levels to share resources and promote student wellbeing and success. More resources can be viewed on our Resources for Students webpage.
