Honors College faculty and staff will host a week of engagement events for students! Check out the listing of all our events below and make sure to carve out some time to attend!

Monday

Preferred Applicant Track Student Panel

Monday, September 15 | 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. | Honors College Room 1303

Thinking about applying to a Preferred Applicant Track Program this year or next year? Come learn from students who went through the application process and are now in a Guaranteed Admission Program. Bring your questions! Dr. Connolly, GA Program Director will also be there for questions as well. 


Social Justice & the Arts at the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art)

Monday, September 15 | 3 p.m.-4 p.m. | 601 W. Broad St. (across the St. from the Honors College)

Join Prof. Halstead (who teaches HONR398 Social Justice & the Arts) for an introduction to this FREE contemporary art museum (across the street from the honors building!) and a guided tour of the ICA's current exhibitions. Meet in the Honors College lobby between 2:50 and 2:55. We'll head to the ICA promptly at 3:00 and walk over together. Things We Wish We Had Known When We Got to College (with Mary Boyes and Chris Rudeen)

An interactive session on things we wish we had known when we got to college. We'll focus on getting engaged, learning your own study habits, resources, etc. All over snacks!

Master Your Minutes: Time Management Strategies with the CLC

Tuesday, September 16 | 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. | Honors College Room 1303

Strengthen your time management skills with experts from the Campus Learning Center! Bring colored markers, pens, or pencils to create a weekly schedule as you learn tips and tricks to manage your time effectively. 


An Honors Peregrination to the Poe Museum

Jared will take 15 honors students on a trip to the Poe Museum to learn about Edgar Allen Poe, his legacy on gothic fiction, and his relevance to the city of Richmond. 


Celebrate National Voter Registration Day with Dr. Smith-Mason 

Tuesday, September 16 | 7 p.m.-8 p.m. | Honors College Multipurpose Room 1303

Celebrate National Voter Registration Day with your Honors peers and faculty! Honors Senior Associate Dean Jacqueline Smith-Mason, Ph.D. will lead this event to help you understand how to register to vote, activate your civic engagement and also assist you in creating a voting plan. Refreshments and trivia will also be included.

Highlights and Spooky History of Hollywood Cemetery

Jared will take 15-20 honors students on a trip to Hollywood Cemetery to learn about the historical figures interred there and about the cemetery's significance to RVA History.

Transfer Student Cookie Connection & T-Shirt Pickup

Honors transfer students are invited to the Honors lounge to connect with other transfer students, enjoy an Oreo bar, and pickup your Honors College T-Shirt! 


Weightlifting with Drs. Tyndall and Connolly     

Thursday, September 18 | 4 p.m.-5 p.m. | RecWell Group Exercise Studio| RSVP Here 

Join Dr. Tyndall and Dr. Connolly and your Honors peers for a special BodyPump weightlifting class exclusively for Honors students. In this class, a certified Les Mills instructor and Honors College alumna will guide you through the basics of safe weightlifting and then lead a 45-minute class that will work all major muscle groups, set to the beat of energizing music! All levels of experience are welcome! 


Friday

Queer Coffee Hour

Friday, September 19 | 9 a.m.-10 a.m. | Honors Lounge

Put on your mug because we're spilling tea on all the queer resources you might want while you're at VCU! Pour yourself an iced coffee, snag some light breakfast refreshments and get to know your fellow Honors students while learning about what makes Richmond and VCU a safe space for you to explore who you are. Everyone is welcome!


Honors Student Activities Fair

Friday, September 19 | 3 p.m.-5 p.m. | Honors College Room 1303

This is an opportunity for new students to learn about the extracurricular opportunities at the Honors College! Honors clubs and student organizations will be tabling, and students are invited to walk through the fair at their own pace. Students can talk to student leaders, learn how to join clubs, and discover ways to get involved with Honors programming.
